License Management
NetRisk uses QLM®, a third-party product developed by Soraco®, to manage licensing.
To perform any of the following, your computer must have an active internet connection.
Named-user Licenses
A named-user license can be activated on however many computers has been specified by the quantity at the time of purchase. A named-user license must connect to the internet every 30 days for fraud prevention. Each time NetRisk is launched while connected to the internet, the 30 day window resets.
If you already have the trial, please deactivate your trial license and then activate your permanent license using the instructions below.
Activating
1. Launch NetRisk.exe | |
2. Click Activate your license |

5. Enter the key from the download email and click Activate |

Transferring/Deactivating
To transfer a named-user license from one computer to another, first deactivate it on the existing computer using the instructions below and then activate it on the new computer.
An activation key can only be transferred a maximum of four times per year.
1. Click the App Menu icon and choose Manage License |

2. Click Deactivate your license |
|
| 3. Click Deactivate |

| 6. Click Finish |

Concurrent-user Licenses
With a concurrent-use license, NetRisk can be run on as many computers as desired, as long as the number of computers using NetRisk at any given time does not exceed the number of seats purchased.
Concurrent Setup
If you already have the trial, please deactivate your trial license before performing the following instructions.
The first computer to have NetRisk installed will setup the database. The database is an encrypted XML file which will be created during installation at a location of your choice.
1. Identify a primary computer | |
| 2. Launch the Windows Command Prompt using Admin privileges |

3. Change directories to the location of the NetRisk setup file using the cd command (but without the spaces): For example: cd c:\Users \Administrator \Downloads |
|
4. Identify a UNC path on your company's network. A UNC path is a location accessible by all the other computers on which NetRisk will be installed. UNC paths do NOT include Windows driver letters and begin with two backslashes. For example: \\MyCompany \MyNetwork \Site1 | |
| 5. Create a new folder at the UNC location where the license database will be stored. For example: NetRiskLicenseDatabase | |
6. From the command prompt, run the NetRisk setup file using the UNC path from steps 4 and 5 and adding qlmFloating.xml to the end. For example: setup.exe FLOATING=1 FLOATING_DB_PATH="\\UNC \qlmFloating.xml" In this example, it would be (but without the spaces): "\\MyCompany \MyNetwork \Site1 \NetRiskLicenseDatabase \qlmFloating.xml" Note: Make sure to include the quotation marks as specified |

| 7. Follow the steps in the installation wizard | |
| 8. Launch NetRisk | |
9. Click Activate your license |

10. Enter the key from the download email and click Activate |

| 11. Click Next |

12. Enter the same path from step 6 and click Register. In this example, it would be (but without the spaces): \\MyCompany \MyNetwork \Site1 \NetRiskLicenseDatabase \qlmFloating.xml Note: no quotation marks are needed here |

| 13. Click Finish | |
| 14. Make sure NetRisk is closed and repeat steps 1-6 on all other computers which will be sharing the license. Entering the activation is not necessary. If desired, this process can be automated using MSI. For more info, contact support. |
Increasing Seats or Moving the Database
For increasing seats, additional seats must be purchased via the webstore before performing the following steps.
| 1. Launch the Windows Command Prompt using Admin privileges. |

2. Type the following and press ENTER cd [location_of_NetRisk] For example: cd C:\Program Files\NetRisk |
|
3. Type the following and press ENTER NetRisk.exe REINITIALIZEDB \\UNC To move the database and update the number of seats, enter a new path. To just update the number of seats, use the same path. |

| 4. Click Activate Your License |
|
| 5. Click Next directly |
|
| 6. Click Register |
|
| 7. Click Finish |
|
| 8. For increasing seats, no additional steps needed. For moving the database, repeat steps 1-7 on each computer. |
Viewing and Releasing Concurrent Users
1. Run ViewerSetup.exe | |
| 2. Follow the steps in the installation wizard | |
| 3. Run the QLMFloatingLicenseViewer.exe | |
| 4. Click the dropdown next to Database Type and choose Xml |
|
| 5. Next to Database Path, enter the same UNC location from step 4 of Floating Setup. |
|
| 6. Click the browse button next to Settings Path, browse to your installation directory, and choose the NetRisk 2.0.lw.xml file. Typically, this will result in something like C:\Users\[user_name]\NetRisk\NetRisk 2.0.lw.xml where [user_name] is the actual name of your user account. |

| 7. Click OK. |

| 8. To remove access from a given computer, select it in the list and click Release |

Recovering an Activation Key
1. Click the App Menu icon and choose Manage License |
|
2. Click Recover License |
|
| 3. Enter the email that was used to register (for a trial) or purchase (for a permanent license) | |
| 6. Click Submit | |
| 7. Check your email |
